This race has been run as the John Smiths Melling Chase since 2005. Prior to that, it was the Martell Cognac Melling Chase (2001-2004), the Mumm Melling Chase (1992-2000) and the Glenlivet Melling Chase (1991).
It is part of the Grand National meeting at Aintree in April.
