The Nell Gwyn Stakes is a Group 3 flat horse race for three-year-old thoroughbred fillies which is run over a straight distance of 7 furlongs at Newmarket's Rowley Mile course in mid April.
It was first run in 1961 and is named after Nell Gwyn (1650-1687), English actress and mistress of King Charles II.
Although one of the main trials for the One Thousand Guineas which is run over the same course in May, only one winner from the Nell Gwyn Stakes has gone on to win the One Thousand Guineas since 1990 - Speciosa, winner in 2006.
