Distance: 2m 110y There is a more recent article for this race, you can view it Here The Kingmaker Novices' Chase is a Grade 2 National Hunt chase in the United Kingdom for five-year-old and above novices. There are twelve fences to be jumped in the race. The race is normally run at Warwick but was abandoned in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and transferred on each occasion to Wincanton Racecourse. When run at Wincanton, thirteen fences are jumped. It was first run in 1991 in early May over a distance of 2 miles 4 furlongs 110 yards. From 1996 it was run in early May over a distance of 2 miles and from 2000 over the current distance of 2 miles 110 yards. The race title comes from the nickname of Richard Neville, 16th Earl of Warwick, who was known as "Warwick the Kingmaker" during the Wars of the Roses. |
