Coral-Eclipse Stakes
|
Distance: 1m 2f 7y The Eclipse Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds. It was first run in 1886 and is named after 18th century racehorse Eclipse who won all 18 races of his career. Apparently, he was so good, he didn't just win the races but won by some distance - and without ever being whipped or spurred. He was retired to stud after just two years of racing due to lack of competition. The vast majority of current thoroughbred horses have Eclipse in their pedigree. "Eclipse first and the rest nowhere." |
